We’re delighted to welcome Graham Watson, author of The Invention of Charlotte Brontë.
A real coup for the festival, as the book has been shortlisted for the 2026 Plutarch International Award for Best Biography and was named one of the best books of 2025 by The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.
The Invention of Charlotte Brontë offers a darker, more nuanced portrait of one of the nineteenth century’s most famous women writers. By interrogating known events and introducing previously overlooked archival material, it challenges the established narrative and reveals the Brontë family as they have never been seen before.
